Fishercreek specializes in home-raised Flat-Coated Retrievers. We have been breeding purebred dogs for Temperament, Show, Obedience and Field for the past 40 years and fell in love with Flat-Coated Retrievers a number of years ago.
After studying the breed for quite a long time, we decided to purchase one. We quickly discovered that it was not that easy as there were few Flat-Coats bred in North America. As well, breeders were hesitant in selling their pups. After much research into breeders, we found someone in the United States that was going to have a Spring litter of pups that we could purchase with no strings attached. We put a deposit on a puppy and after waiting six months, we picked our puppy up from the Exotic Kennel.
The Flat-Coat we wanted had to have a mild, laid-back temperament while being able to work when needed. We were also looking for a dog with impeccable conformation. Over the past eight years we have been breeding superior flat-coated retrievers with exactly that — super temperament and an ability to work in obedience, field and agility while maintaining great conformation. I am happy to say we have accomplished this with our thoughtful and careful breeding program.
We sell our puppies to qualified pet homes as well as conformation and working homes. We currently have five Flat-Coated Retrievers living with us and six others that we co-own and have not experienced any health problems from our breeding program. All our breeding stock have their hips, eyes, and elbows certified and are Canadian/American champions. We also have a two-year guarantee on all our puppies against any genetic problems.

Our journey with flat-coats has given us the opportunity to meet many new and interesting people. Many of our puppy owners have become our very good friends and we have often provided them a second and even a third member to our Flat-Coat homes. Some of our new acquaintances are so special we now consider them “family”.
Anne (Cepela) Prehn is a veterinarian in Michigan that we have known for several years and is our dear and cherished friend. Doctor Anne is our American liasion for Fishercreek in the U S A. Professionally, Dr. Cepela has a strong interest in the health issues that concern Flat-coats and has assisted us to produce the healtiest and most genetically sound dogs possible. She has been so impressed with our breeding program that she has tailored her own program to enhance ours. Anne helps us to provide our well-planned outcrosses and line breeding program through our carefully chosen matings. Dr Anne says ” I was extremely fortunate to meet the Harrisons early-on in my Flat-coat education. we have spent countless delightful hours discussing Flat-coats as Barry and Pauline have selflessy mentored me. I am especially proud to be able to say that I have the first “ROMAN” son, a result of putting our heads together and breeding Roman to my girl Phoebe. and what a joy he is.”
Steven Schmidt loves the look and versatility of the Flat-Coat breed. His ambitions and skills are in training for both Obedience and Field. Steve has done very well with his dogs in both venues and also has had great success in conformation with his girl Shea. Shea finished her Championship in the Group ring and has 11 group placements in the past 2 years - the most of any Flat-Coated bitch in Canada. Steve is a valuable asset to the Fishercreek Family as he assists in the training of our multiple dogs along with teaching classes. if you don’t see him there, try outside throwing bumpers and birds. He is a tireless and gifted technical developer and support person. Steve is also developing his own breeding plan which he hopes to pursue as time allows.
Cookie Kelley is the east coast wing of our family. After breeding Golden Retrievers for many years she has now come wholeheartedly to the ‘dark side’. Cookie originally fell in love with the Breed at a Hunt Test in Ct. She swore she would have a Flat Coat while she was still able to participate in many venues. Cookie met Pauline and Barry at the Flat-Coat and Golden Retriever Specialty in 2006 in Quebec and approached Barry for a puppy. After a two year wait she was blessed with Roxie. Since then she has devoted herself to the breed. Cookie has titled many of her Goldens with Junior Hunt and Senior Hunt Test titles and bred many American/Canadian Champions. She also had her AKC judges permit to judge Junior and Senior Level Hunt Tests. Her years of researching pedigrees and raising fine and healthy puppies will be another asset to the Fishercreek family along with her interest and knowledge in holistic practices. She enjoys the conformation ring and will return to field training. Liam and Roxie are in her care and have already ranked in the top Flat-coats (including a coveted “Best in Show ” for Roxie - owner handled). Cookie is a member of the Northeast Flat-Coated Retriever Club and Flat-Coated Retriever Club of America.
